A Message of Solidarity to the VPA

A message of solidarity to the Virginia People's Assembly from Kenneth Yates on behalf of May Day 2010

The left has a choice, we can either continue on the same path of intellectual obscurity, drowning in our theory until idealism turns to apathy, or we can put this theory to work, re-join American culture, and earn perspective like those in a more radical time...
Through direct action and participation!

It's important however, that we steer clear from the sectarian nature of political parties, and focus directly on the organization of the working class.

As it stands, the working people barely exist in the minds of bureaucrats, and their policies are proof of this. Representatives sit comfortably in the pockets of capitalists, and together they have successfully eliminated the working people as a threat.

It's time we recognize that they are not our representatives at all. They are our opponents.

The People's Assembly is an attempt to unify our various struggles, rebuild a working class movement and with it, democracy. It's success depends on the participation and willingness of the working class to recognize a common enemy in capitalism and attain a critical mass.

I believe that 2010 will prove to be a year of resistance, and in the spirit of direct action, and appreciation for the social and economic achievements of the international labor movement, we plan to add to the momentum of the Virginia People's Assembly with the organization of a May Day Parade.

On Friday April 30th & Saturday May 1st, Richmond will play host to a series of workshops, discussions, and guest speakers ending in a parade complete with larger than life puppets through Jackson Ward & Broad St. We expect to see all of you and your causes represented in record numbers.

In Solidarity,
Yours Truly!
