Don't Balance the Budget on My Back!

Breanne Armbrust of the Virginia People's Assembly, Richmond Jobs With Justice & organizer with Richmond's May Day is being interviewed by Richmond's NBC 12 News Correspondent Laura Geller tonight, January 12th, about McDonnells yet-to-be publicly announced legislation to abolish the corporate tax completely. Be sure to see what she discovered! It's absolutely rediculous.

This legislation will only benefit the largest corporations, which currently in Virginia already enjoy the benefit of paying the second to lowest tax in the country at 6%. Champions of 'Top Down' economics such as this argue that such legislation will encourage large business to move to Virginia and create much needed jobs, and free up funds at current corporations to redistribute to the workers. We all know that is a joke! This will translate to nothing more than more profits for those with plenty and practically nothing for those without any!

The state is offering incentives to corporations that do not pan out! With over $4billion dollars in anticipated budget shortfalls, state jobs and social programs are going to be cut on a major scale. Governor Caine suggested an income tax on the workers of 1%, and even though McDonnell opposes that as an option, he is still not doing anything to better the situation.

We should demand an increase of taxes on big businesses to pay for such shortfalls. Even a 1% increase on corporate tax would more than double the amount needed to help state workers from being laid off and social programs from cutting services that people need to survive!

We have the unique opportunity of knowing, before they have even had a chances to announce it publicly, that this is on the agenda of McDonell's administration. The General Assembly is in session, and they'll be there. We should be too! If not in person, definitely everywhere else! We must do whatever is necessary to block this legislation from passing! We have 60 days to do it! General Assembly opens it's doors to lobbyist on Wednesday.

PASS THIS ON FAR AND WIDE!
