VA Peoples Assembly | January 9, 2010

I attended the Virginia People's Assembly Presentation last night and I pledged to help get the word out about the events happening on January 9th. The Virginia People's Assembly is an organization acting as a hub for radical organizations in Richmond, trying to ensure that people are heard and that these groups arguments for the people are being heard not only by other organizations, but by individuals, activist's and future organizers.

The VPA recognizes that the General Assembly and government officials are not going to change their minds simply because we ask them to, so we hope to collectively organize around January 9th and beyond to eventually have a critical mass of which our elected officials can not ignore. We hope to build an awareness and an active constituency made of working people associated with progressive organizations in Richmond, because that is where change is going to come from.

On Saturday January 9th:

[ 11am - 2pm ] There will be an "Assembly" of different organizations, organizers, activists, etc. discussing what their main concerns which will be open for discussion @ 505 N. 33rd St (between Clay & Leigh St.) in Church Hill

[ 3pm - 4pm ] Rally @ Kanawha Plaza - Speakers from various organizations will speak briefly before marching.

[ 4pm - 5pm ] We will take a "tour" of the cities corporations and government buildings with a brief anecdote about their role as they apply to the concerns of the Va Peoples Assembly.
